Blizzard Officially Cancelled BlizzCon 2020

Blizzard Entertainment have confirmed that BlizzCon 2020 is cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, the company is going to organize an online conference that is luckily to take place sometime early next year. Blizzard are also looking into ways to replace esports competitions that are usually played during the convention.

BlizzCon is an annual gaming conference, where Blizzard announce news on their projects and held the biggest esports events – last year BlizzCon featured Hearthstone Global Finals, Overwatch World Cup, StarCraft III WCS Global Finals and World of Warcraft competitions. Its first iteration was held in 2005, since then the conference always takes place in Anaheim, California. Earlier BlizzCon was cancelled only twice – in 2006 and 2012.

BlizzCon is not the first game convention to be cancelled due to coronavirus – the list of events includes E3, QuakeCon, Gamescom and others. Most of them will have an online replacement.
