Astralis have defeated Team Liquid in the grand finals of Intel Extreme Masters Season XIII: Chicago, a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive event with a $250,000 prize pool. The winners received $100,000 in prize money and a point in the first season of Intel Grand Slam.
In the final series of the event Astralis defeated Team Liquid at all three maps: Mirage (16:14), Nuke (16:7) and Inferno (16:4). Earlier in the playoffs stage they outplayed Fnatic (2:1) in the semifinals and mousesports (2:0) in the quarterfinals.
Earlier during the group stage sixteen teams competed in two GSL groups. Astralis played in Group A, where they defeated MVP PK (16:8) and North (2:0) in the upper bracket, but lost to FaZe Clan (0:2) in the upper bracket finals, placing second in the group.
As the event was part of Intel Grand Slam Season 1, Astralis now have three points and are only one step away from winning $1,000,000. They will have a chance to do it this December at ESL Pro League Season 8: Finals in Odense, Denmark.
IEM Chicago 2018 is one of seven premier events where Astralis managed to place first this year. Earlier they emerged victorious at DreamHack Masters Marseille 2018, ESL Pro League Season 7 Finals, ECS Season 5 Finals, ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier 2018, FACEIT Major: London 2018 and BLAST Pro Series: Istanbul 2018.
