Today marks the start of ESL One: New York 2019, a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive event that will feature eight teams competing for a $200,000 prize pool. The tournament is also part of Intel Grand Slam. There also will be a showmatch featuring the reworked version of de_cache for the first time.
Among tournament’s participants are five invited teams, such as Astralis, ENCE, FaZe Clan, Team Liquid and RNG Esports, as well as three qualified teams, including OpTic Gaming (GG.Bet Invitational), G2 Esports (Europe) and eUnited (North America).
The event will begin with the group stage, where the teams will compete in two GSL groups with best-of-three series. The participants has been seeded into the groups as follows:
|Group A||Group B|
|G2 Esports||NRG Esports|
|Team Liquid||OpTic Gaming|
In the Group A opening matches Team Liquid will face eUnited, while G2 Esports will play with ENCE. In Group B Astralis will compete with OpTic, while FaZe will face NRG. The detailed schedule is available on the tournament’s page.
The group stage will determine four participants of the playoffs stage, which will feature a single-elimination bracket with best-of-three semifinals and best-of-five grand finals. The winner of the event will get not only a huge chunk of the prize pool, but also one point towards the third season of Intel Grand Slam.
According to the GG.Bet’s outright odds, the highest chances to win the event belong to Team Liquid and Astralis, the teams that are currently placed first and second in the world ranking respectively. It should be mentioned that Astralis this month managed to win StarLadder Berlin Major 2019, while Team Liquid placed only 5-8th at the major. However NRG Esports, who are believed to be top-4 team in the world and placed 3rd-4th at the previous major, are given much smaller chances to win the event.
