ESL have announced Intel Extreme Masters – Global Challenge 2020, a $500,000 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive event that is a part of Pro Tour and Intel Grand Slam. The tournament is scheduled for December 15th – 20th. The company plans to hold the event in a LAN setting in Cologne, Germany. However, it may change depending on the epidemiological situation in the world.
The tournament’s line-up will consist of eight invited teams, none of which have been revealed as of yet. The group stage will feature two groups with double-elimination format and best-of-three series. The best two teams from each group will advance to a single-elimination playoffs bracket. There all regular matches will be best-of-three, while the grand finale will be best-of-five.
This announcement comes after the cancellation of ESL One: Rio 2020, which was supposed to take place in November. The tournament’s prize pool consists of $500,000 which was deducted from the prize pool of ESL One: Cologne 2020, which with the transition to online format got its prize pool reduced from $1,000,000 to a total of $500,000. IEM Global Challenge 2020 will be preceded by IEM XV Beijing Online, which will take place on November 6th – 22th in four regions, offering a total prize pool of $230,000.
