Next week begins StarLadder Berlin Major 2019, a major Counter-Strike: Global Offensive event that will feature 24 best teams competing for a $1,000,000 prize pool. The event will be split into three stages.
The first stage called The Challengers Stage is scheduled for August 23rd – 26th. Among this stage’s participants are six teams that placed 9-14th at IEM Katowice Major 2019 (The Returning Challengers) and eleven teams that made it through the regional minor events (The Minor Challengers).
These sixteen teams will compete in a Swiss format. The elimination and advancement matches will be best-of-three, while the rest of the games will be best-of-one. Once the first stage ends, top eight teams advance to the next stage, while the others will be eliminated.
The second part of the event, The Legends Stage, will be played on August 28th – September 1st with the same format as the first stage. Top eight teams from the first stage will be joined by eight teams that placed 1st-8th at the previous major, among which are Astralis, ENCE, Natus Vincere, MIBR, FaZe Clan, Team Liquid, Renegades, and Ninjas in Pyjamas.
The final stage of the event, The Champions Stage, will be played at Mercedes-Benz Arena with live audience On September 5-8th. Eight teams will compete in a single-elimination bracket, where all matches will be best-of-three. The winner of the event will get $500,000 in prize money.
GG.Bet’s outright odds show that Team Liquid are the main favourites of the event. This comes as no surprise considering the previous results of the North American team – only last month the team placed first at ESL One: Cologne 2019, BLAST Pro Series: Los Angeles 2019 and IEM XIV – Chicago. Among other teams with a high chance to win the event are Astralis, Natus Vincere and Team Vitality.
