This weekend a $150,000 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament was held in St Julian’s, Malta. In the grand finals of the event Team Liquid defeated NRG Esports, 2-0, and received $80,000 in prize money. Additionally, BIG sealed a 2-1 victory over HellRaisers in the 3rd place match.
The event took place from November 29th – December 2nd at the InterContinental conference centre. The organizers invited eight teams from Europe, North America and China, among them were BIG, Gambit Esports, HellRaisers, Team Kinguin, Team Liquid, NRG Esports, TyLoo and Virtus.pro. The event consisted of the group stage and the playoffs stage. In the first stage the teams were seeded into two double-elimination groups, where the initial matches were best-of-one and the following matches were best-of-three. Then top two teams advanced to the single-elimination playoffs bracket.
Both Team Liquid and NRG Esports qualified to the playoffs stage from Group A, where they placed first and second respectively. In the semi-finals Team Liquid defeated BIG (2-0), while NRG Esports outplayed HellRaisers (2-0). In the final series Team Liquid emerged victorious at both Overpass (16:4) and Inferno (16:14).
