ESL have revealed first details on the qualifiers for their Dota 2 event ESL One Birmingham Online 2020, including the slot distribution and schedule of the matches.
The qualifier will be held in four regions: Europe/CIS, North America, China and Southeast Asia. The open qualifiers in all regions are scheduled for May 8th – 10th, while the closed qualifiers will be played on May 12th-14th. The closed stage in each region will feature four teams – two of them will be invited by the organizers, while the other two advanced from the open stage.
The closed stage participants will compete in a double-elimination bracket with best-of-three series, while the finals will be best-of-five. The qualifiers in each Europe/CIS and Southeast Asia will determine two participants of the main event, while only one team will be able to make it through the qualifiers in North America and China.
ESL One Birmingham 2020 was initially planned to be played offline on May 26th – 31st, however eventually was transitioned to online and rescheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The new dates of the main event have not been announced yet. The biggest regional prize pool – $200,000 – was assigned to Europe/CIS. The Chinese teams will compete for a $55,000, while the prize pool for both North America and Southeast Asia is set at $40,000.
