The tournament organizer FACEIT has revealed that the company will host the first officially licensed APEX Legends tournament called FACEIT Pro Series. The event will start on May 31st and feature a $50,000 prize pool.
The tournament’s line-up will consist of 16 teams. The organizers have already invited 14 of them, and they are all from the North American region, including 100 Thieves, Cloud9, compLexity Gaming, Counter Logic Gaming, Dignitas, Fnatic, G2 Esports, Gen.G Esports, Immortals, Team Liquid, Misfits, NRG Esports, Team SoloMid and T1. The other two participants will be determined by qualifiers.
While it has not been officially confirmed yet, Team SoloMid’s player Taylor "THump " Humphries shared on his Twitter account that the event will be a kill race tournament – meaning that the players will queue using normal matchmaking and gain tournament points by killing players. The same format was used at Twitch Rivals Apex Legends Challenge events and was heavily criticized by viewers. Currently the game still does not support lobbies, so it is impossible to held events where pro players play among each other.
