Riot releases one of the biggest updates to date for the upcoming Preseason, which contain major changes to rune system, uncapped leveling, balance changes and many more.
The main change of the upcoming update in the new runes. Riot are getting rid of all old runes, which were focused on passive bonuses, and instead presents 60 brand-new and free runes focused on playstyle defining effects.
There are now 5 paths of runes, each of them focuses on a certain playstyle:
Each path has 1 slot for the most powerful runes called keystone and 3 slots for usual runes. In each slot you can select one of three options, meaning that your build will consist of 1 keystone and 3 runes. In addition to this, you can select a secondary path and add two additional runes to your champion build (keystones excluded).
The players who bought runes before the preseason will be compensated.
The other thing Riot decided to get rid of is the leveling cup. Previously the maximum account level was set at 30, while now the players will be able to level indefinitely. The reward system was also reworked – instead of getting IP after every game, now the players will get special loot boxes called capsules each time they level up. These capsules contain rewards depending on your level. From 1 to 30 level the capsules will contain mostly champ shards and blue essence. There are also special rewards, such as gemstones or exclusive ward skins, for hitting milestones levels – 50, 75, 100 etc. The amount of experience you need to level up stops to increase after you hit level 150.
This update contains many other things, including balance changes to almost every champion to compensate for the runes changes. To read the full patch notes, head over to the official update page.
