DreamHack Masters Marseille: Astralis Beat Na`Vi in Finals

DreamHack Masters Marseille 2018 is over with Astralis taking first place and winning $100,000 in prize money after defeating Natus Vincere 2-0 in the grand finals of the $250,000 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive event. Their opponents received only half of the amount – $50,000.

The event, that was held on April 18-22 in Marseille, France, featured sixteen teams competing for a $250,000 prize pool, twelve of them were invited by the organizers, while the other four teams had to make it through the regional qualifiers in Europe, North America and China. First the teams were placed into four GSL groups with opening and elimination matches being best-of-one and winners’ and decider matches being best-of-three. Then top two teams from each group qualified for the single-elimination playoffs stage with best-of-three series.

Both future finalists placed first in their groups – Natus Vincere defeated Renegades and Fnatic in Group C, while Astralis outplayed Space Soldiers and Team Liquid in Group D. In the playoffs Natus Vincere emerged victorious in the series against mousesports and Gambit Esports, while Astralis defeated 2-0 both FaZe Clan and Fnatic. In the grand finals Astralis not only completely outplayed Natus Vincere on Nuke which was their pick with the 16:4 score, but also managed to overcome Na`Vi on their pick – Inferno, with 16:11 score. For this victory Astralis received not only $100,000 in prize money, but also their first point towards Grand Slam series.
