ESL One Cologne to Kick Off Tomorrow with 16 Teams Competing for $300,000

Tomorrow begins yet another ESL One event, this time it returns to Lanxess-Arena which is located in the German city Cologne. Sixteen teams will compete not only for their share of a $300,000 prize pool, but also for a point towards Intel Grand Slam award.

The event will begin with a group stage, in which the teams will be divided into two GSL groups. The initial matches will be best-of-one, while all following matches will be best-of-three. The winners of each group will make it to the semifinals, while the teams placed second and third will qualify for the quarterfinals. The playoffs stage will have a single-elimination bracket with best-of-three quarterfinals and semifinals and best-of-five grand finals.

According to our odds, Astralis are the most obvious favourites of the tournaments – indeed, the Danish team recently won two premier events in a row – ESL Pro League Season 7 Finals and Esports Championship Series Season 5 Finals. The other teams worth attention are FaZe Clan, Natus Vincere and mousesports – all of these teams have won some premier events recently and are generally in good shape. Also note that ESL One Cologne 2018 is part of Intel Grand Slam series, and FaZe Clan are only one step away from getting $1,000,000 as they have already three points and need only one more – no doubt, it can give the team additional motivation.
