GESC Indonesia: Evil Geniuses Win Their First DPC Event

The North American team Evil Geniuses finally managed to win their first Dota Pro Circuit event this season – in the grand finals of GESC Indonesia Minor they defeated VGJ.Thunder 2-0, receiving $110,000 in prize money and crucial 150 qualification points.

The event was held in Jakarta, Indonesia on March 15-18 and featured 8 teams competing for $300,000 and 300 DPC points. The tournament’s system was somewhat different from we are used to: despite having the GSL groups, none of the teams were eliminated after it – instead, the group stage determined the teams placements in the bracket: the teams placed first advanced directly to the semifinals, the teams placed second made it to the quarterfinals, while the other four teams had to start their way from the 1/8 round.

Both Evil Geniuses and VGJ.Thunder placed first in their group with the 2-0 score: EG defeated Infamous (1-0) and Natus Vincere (2-0), while VGJ.Thunder outplayed The Final Tribe (1-0) and Fnatic (2-1), thus both team secured their spots in the semifinals. In the playoffs EG again faced Natus Vincere and again defeated them 2-0, while VGJ.Thunder won against Infamous (2-1). In the grand finals Evil Geniuses managed to overcome their Chinese opponents with the 2-0 score, for the first time in this season becoming champions of a DPC event. After this tournament they are placed 7th in the DPC rankings with 1335 qualification points.
