The developers of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds released the roadmap for 2018, in which they shared their plans on updating the game. Below we summed up all important facts.

General Information

  • Major content update every two months
  • Experimental Test Server for testing new updates and gathering feedback from the community
  • The developers want to introduce new game modes, but at the moment it’s too early to share details
  • One of the developer’s goals is to improve the game’s aesthetic side, including to rework of the in-game buildings

Short-term goals

  • A new 4x4km island map will be available on Test Server next month

  • Emote system
  • Achievements, in-game friends list and squad voice chat in the main menu
  • Detailed vehicle sounds - suspension and skidding sounds

Long-term goals

  • New vehicles, weapons and attachments
  • New 8x8km map
  • Improvements to the ballistic system - limb and vehicle bullet penetration
  • Overhaul of third-person and first-person animations
  • Parachuting should become more responsible and get better animations
  • Improvements for melee combat
  • Further improvements to stability, optimization and security
  • Sound of the player movement will change depending on the equipment
  • Improvements for live spectator tool, including integration of replays for spectators.

The roadmap shows that the developers are dedicated to further improve their game after the release, which will be much needed to compete with Fortnite and other Battle Royal games. Talking about esports, it was mentioned that the game is still not fully “esports ready”, but they are working on it and want to become “a great foundation for Battle Royal esports”.
