WCS Austin 2018: Preview
Next week Austin will host the second event of WCS Circuit in this season – WCS Austin 2018, which will feature 80 players from all over the world competing for a $101,000 prize pool, qualification points and a spot at Global Finals.
The event is organized by DreamHack and will be held on June 1-3. There will be three group stages and the playoffs. The first group stage will feature 64 players seeded into 16 GSL groups with best-of-three matches, with top two players from each group advancing to the next stage. The second group stage has the same format but the reduced number of players: down to 32. The third group stage will include 16 best players from the second stage as well as 16 players qualified from reginal events. They will be split into 8 groups with GSL format and best-of-three series, top two players from each group will advance to the single-elimination playoffs bracket with best-of-five regular matches and best-of-seven grand finals. The tournament’s map pool includes seven maps: 16-Bit LE, Acid Plant LE, Catalyst LE, Darkness Sanctuary LE, Dreamcatcher LE, Lost and Found LE, Redshift LE. The winner of the event will receive not only $20,000 in prize money, but will also secure his spot at WCS Global Finals.

The previous WCS Circuit event was held in Leipzig, Germany in January. In the grand finals Joona "Serral" Sotala defeated Tobias "ShoWTimE" Sieber.
