Despite Losing its Major Status, Galaxy Battles Will Be Held with a Reduced Number of Teams

Since Galaxy Battles II lost its major status, most of the teams announced they that won’t attend the event. In spite of all the setbacks, the organizers are still determined to held the tournament and have presented the seeding of the teams.

The tournament is no longer a major, which resulted in reduction of the prize pool in half – from $1,000,000 to $500,000. Also, the participating teams won’t be able to get the Dota Pro Circuit points. As many top-tier teams rejected to participate, including Virtus.pro, Team Liquid, Team Secret, OpTic Gaming, Newbee, Mineski, and LFY, the other teams saw an increased chance to place high and get a piece of a rather big pie. Thus, TNC Pro Team, Team Spirit, Infamous, VGJ.Thunder, Evil Geniuses, OG and paiN Gaming confirmed their participation (OG will perform with two stand-ins – KheZu and 7ckngMad will temporary replace N0tail and s4). The Wild Card stage also lost two teams – Team Kinguin and Team Empire, which means that the stage will feature only two teams – Skyville and PG.Barracx, one of which will make it to the playoffs.

In the playoffs stage eight participating teams will be placed in a double-elimination bracket with best-of-three regular matches and best-of-five grand finals.
