ESL One Birmingham: Group Stage Draw, Tournament’s Format and Opening Matches
ESL revealed the group stage draw for their upcoming Dota 2 major tournament, which will be held on May 23-27 in Birmingham. For the first stage of the tournament the participating teams were seeded into three groups of four, with only half of them advancing to the next stage.
The group stage will last for two days – it will be played on May 23rd and 24th. It will follow a GSL format – each group will have its own double-elimination bracket with best-of-one series. The winners of the groups will advance to the semifinals, the teams placed second will make it to the quarterfinals. The teams were seeded into the groups as follows.

The organizers have also announced the dates of the opening matches, all of which will take place on May 23.
- 11:00 CEST – Fnatic vs Evil Geniuses
- 11:00 CEST – Virtus.pro vs TBD
- 12:10 CEST – OG vs Vici Gaming
- 12:10 CEST – Team Liquid vs paiN Gaming
- 13:20 CEST – OpTic Gaming vs Newbee
- 13:20 CEST – Mineski vs LGD.Forever Young
The playoffs stage will be played on May 25-27 at Arena Birmingham with the live audience. It will be held in a single-elimination format, with regular matches being best-of-three and grand finals being best-of-five. A match for the third place will be played on the last day of the event. The winners of the tournament will receive $500,000 in prize money and 750 Dota Pro Circuit points, while an MVP of the tournament will get a Mercedes car.
