ESL to Host First CS:GO Major of Next Year

The next major Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament after FACEIT Major: London 2018 will be hosted by ESL. It will start in February 2019 and will be held in Katowice as part of the IEM series.

The event will be called Intel Extreme Masters Season XIII – World Championship and will feature a $1,000,000 prize pool. It will have a similar format to the previous majors. The line-up will consist of 24 teams, 16 slots will be taken by top-16 teams of FACEIT Major: London 2018, while the other 8 participants will be determined by the regional minors in Europe, Americas, Asia and CIS. There will be three stages: New Challengers, New Legends and New Champions. The final stage, previously known as playoffs, will be held on February 28th – March 3rd at the legendary Spodek Arena in Katowice, Poland. As event is organized by ESL, it will also be part of Intel Grand Slam series.

The previous major tournament organized by ESL was held in 2016 – ESL One Cologne 2016 took place on July 5-10 at Lanxess-Arena in Cologne, Germany. In the grand finals SK Gaming defeated Team Liquid, receiving $500,000 in prize money.
