IEM XIV World Championship: Astralis and G2 Esports to Play in Semifinals

The group stage of Intel Extreme Masters XIV – World Championship has concluded, determining six teams that will participate in the playoffs. Astralis and G2 Esports made it directly to the semifinals, while Fnatic, Natus Vincere, Team Liquid and 100 Thieves will compete in the quarterfinals.

Astralis managed to defeat Fnatic (2-0) in the Group A upper bracket final, while in the group’s lower bracket Natus Vincere outplayed FaZe Clan (2-1). In the final match of Group B’s upper bracket G2 Esports defeated Team Liquid (2-0), while 100 Thieves outplayed mousesports (2-1) in the groups’ decider.

The playoffs stage will continue today, on February 28th. We will be able to witness two quarterfinals series, where Fnatic will compete with 100 Thieves (2:00 PM UK Time) and Liquid will face Na`Vi (5:55 PM). The winner of the first series will compete with G2 Esports, while the stronger team of the second match will play with Astralis.

The event is being held in the Polish city of Katowice and features a $500,000 prize pool. Earlier the tournament’s organizers announced that the viewers would not be allowed in the stadium due to the decision of local authorities.
