Preview of World Cyber Games 2019
This week the Chinese city of Xi'an will host a multi-game event World Cyber Games 2019, which will include competitions in Dota 2, Hearthstone, StarCraft II, WarCraft III and other games. The event will take place on July 18th – 21st and feature a total prize pool of about $500,000.
The Dota 2 event will feature eight teams competing for a $140,000 prize pool. All participants made it through the regional qualifiers in Asia-Pacific region (Cignal Ultra, Unicorn), America (Thunder Predator, Black Sheep), Europe (Hippomaniacs, KeinBockOderWas) and China (CDEC Gaming, Newbee). First, they will compete in a single group with round-robin format and best-of-one series. Then top four teams will advance to the playoffs bracket. The winner of the event will get $80,000 in prize money.
The Hearthstone competition features a $40,000 prize pool. Among participants are Asbefore and LFReconnect from China, Exigo and TechnoGoose from Europe, TerrenceM and Tempo from America, and Fluorine and Akumaker from Asia Pacific region. The players will compete in a Standard mode with best-of-three matches. The winner will get $25,000.
The StarCraft II competition will be of a smaller format, with only four participants, among which are Cyan from China, Maru from South Korea, Reynor from Italy and Neeb from USA. The prize pool and format have not been revealed yet.
The WarCraft III competition’s line-up includes Moon and LawLiet from South Korea, TH000 and Infi from China, HawK and SyDe from Europe, and Hunter with Htrt from America. First, they will compete in a round-robin group, then top four players will advance to the single-elimination playoffs bracket with a 3rd place match.
Besides the aforementioned esports, WCG 2019 will also feature competitions on Clash Royale, CrossFire, Honor of Kings and Clash Royale League.
