ESL Announced IEM Shanghai and Revealed Invited Teams

ESL announced that the next tournament in the Intel Extreme Masters series will be held on August 1-6 in Shanghai, China. The tournament will have a $250,000 prize pool and 8 competing teams.

Intel Extreme Masters XIII – Shanghai will take place at Shanghai New International Expo Center. Five teams have been invited to take part in it, among them are Virtus.pro, Gambit Esports, HellRaisers, NRG Esports, and TyLoo. The other three participants will be determined by the regional qualifiers held in China (June 13-16, 21-23), Asia (June 16-20), and ANZ (June 23-27).

For the group stage the participants will be split into two GSL groups with best-of-three series. Then top two teams will advance to the single-elimination playoffs bracket with best-of-three semifinals and best-of-five grand finals. Although the prize pool of the event is set at $250,000, the tournament is not part of Intel Grand Slam as it is held during the player break.

The previous IEM XIII event was held in Sydney on May 1-6 and featured 16 teams competing for a $250,000 prize pool. In the grand finals FaZe Clan defeated Astralis with the 3-0 score and received $100,000 prize money and a point towards Intel Grand Slam.
