ESL Pro League Season 7 Finals: Astralis on Top Once Again
The final stage of the seventh season of ESL Pro League is over. In the grand finals Astralis defeated Team Liquid 3-1, securing $250,000 in prize money.
The event was held on May 15-20, Verizon Theatre in Dallas served as the tournament’s venue. It featured 16 teams, all of them qualified from regional leagues – 8 teams from Europe, 6 from North America, 2 teams from Asia-Pacific region, and 1 team from South America. They were seeded into two GSL groups, with top three teams from each group advancing to the playoffs, the group winners advanced to the semifinals, and the teams placed 2nd and 3rd made it to the quarterfinals. The playoffs stage was held in single-elimination format, with quarterfinals and semifinals being best-of-three, and grand finals being best-of-five.
Astralis placed first in Group B, thus started from the semifinals, where they defeated FaZe Clan (2-0). Team Liquid qualified for playoffs from the second place in Group B, in the playoffs they managed to outplay mousesports (2-0) and Natus Vincere (2-0). In the grand finals Astralis managed to defeat their opponents from North America 3-1 (16:1 at Dust II; 16:14 at Nuke; 14:16 at Mirage; 16:12 at Inferno). This was the third time in a row when Astralis reached grand finals of a premier event – earlier they placed second at IEM XIII Sydney and first at DreamHack Masters Marseille 2018.
