Grand Finals of ECS Season 5: Astralis Defeats Team Liquid

The fifth season of Esports Championship Series has concluded with the victory of Astralis over Team Liquid with the 2-0 score, which granted the Danish team $250,000 in prize money.

The event took place at June 8-10 at SSE Arena in London, United Kingdom, and featured eight teams (four from Europe and four from North America) competing for a $660,000 prize pool. They were seeded into two GSL groups with best-of-one opening and winner’s matches and best-of-three elimination and decider matches. Top two teams from each group advanced to the single-elimination playoffs bracket.

Both Astralis and Team Liquid advanced to the playoffs from Group A, where they placed first and second respectively. In the playoffs Team Liquid defeated NRG Esports (2-0), while Astralis outplayed FaZe Clan (2-0). In the Grand Finals only two maps were played – the Danish team defeated their opponents on both Mirage (16:14) and Dust II (16:11). Earlier this year Astralis also placed first at DreamHack Masters Marseille 2018 and ESL Pro League Season 7 Finals.
