PSG.LGD Denied Team Liquid Their Third EPICENTER Championship

Team Liquid lost 1-3 to PSG.LGD in the grand finals of EPICENTER XL, failing to secure their third EPICENTER champion’s title. PSG.LGD received $500,000 in prize money and 750 qualification points, and moved to the third place of the DPC rankings with 4071 points in the bag.

The playoffs stage of EPICENTER XL was held on May 4-6 at VTB Ice Palace in Moscow. It featured a double-elimination bracket for eight teams, with first two round of the lower bracket being best-of-one, regular matches being best-of-three, and grand finals being best-of-five. Both Team Liquid and PSG.LGD started their run from the upper bracket. In the quarterfinals Liquid defeated OG (2-0), while PSG.LGD outplayed the crowd favorites Virtus.pro (2-1). Then PSG.LGD defeated Team Liquid 2-0 in the semifinals and knocked them to the lower bracket, where the European team managed to win against FlyToMoon (2-1). In the final series PSG.LGD managed to once again overcome Team Liquid (3-1), who are two-time EPICENTER champions and the winners of The International 2017. This is the first victory of a Chinese team at a major tournament this season. The only other Chinese team that emerged victorious at a DPC event is Newbee, who managed to win two minors – Perfect World Masters and ESL One Genting.
