In the grand finals of a major Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament DreamHack Open Summer 2018 the European team The Imperial defeated their opponents from North America OpTic Gaming with the 2-0 score, taking home the champions trophy and $50,000 in prize money.
The event took place on June 16-18 in Jönköping, Sweden at Elmia Convention Center. It featured eight participating teams, six of them received direct invites – AGO Esports, Gambit Esports, Red Reserve, North, OpTic Gaming and Renegades, while the other two teams qualified from Europe and North America – The Imperial and compLexity Gaming respectively. They were seeded into two GSL groups, with top two teams from each group advancing to the single-elimination playoffs bracket with best-of-three matches.
The Imperial secured the first place in Group A by defeating North (16:12) and AGO (16:4), while OpTic climbed to the top of Group B by outplaying Gambit (16:7) and compLexity (16:5). In the semifinals The Imperial defeated Gambit 2-0, and North lost to OpTic (1-2). In the grand finals Imperial showed a confident play at Overpass, where they won 16:7, and later proceeded to win at Mirage 16:12 and close the series in their favor.
