GG:Origin: Space Soldiers Defeat Heroic and Qualify for IEM Sydney 2018

GG:Origin, an online Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament held in cooperation of UCC Studio and GG.Bet, has completed with the victory of Space Soldiers over Heroic with the 2-0 score in the grand finals, which granted the Turkish team a direct invite for the upcoming premier tournament IEM Sydney 2018.

GG:Origin was held on March 16th – April 12th and featured 20 European teams competing for their share of a $10,000 prize pool and a ticket for IEM Sydney. Four teams, including Gambit Esports, HellRaisers, Heroic and Virtus.pro were invited directly to the playoffs stage, while the group stage featured 15 invited teams and 1 winner of the open qualifier. In the group stage the teams were seeded into four groups with GSL format and best-of-three regular series and best-of-five decider matches (with 1 map advantage to UB team). The best team from each group advanced to the next stage. The results of the group stage are presented in the table below.

As we can see, Windigo Gaming, AVANGAR, Space Soldiers and AGO Esports managed to place first in their groups and advance to the playoffs, where they had to face the invited teams: Gambit, VP, HR and Heroic. This stage was held in a single-elimination format with all matches being best-of-three, the 3rd place match was played. Space Soldiers started their performance in the playoffs by defeating Gambit (2-1) and Virtus.pro (2-0), qualifying for the grand finals, in which they faced Heroic, who earlier outplayed 2-0 both Windigo Gaming and HellRaisers. The Grand Finals concluded with 2-0 score in favor of the Turkish team, granting them the ticker for IEM Sydney 2018. The third place match was played between Virtus.pro and HellRaisers and ended with 2-1 score in favor of HR.
