Fnatic managed to win at yet another LAN-event – after a successful run at IEM Katowice 2018, the Swedish team reached the grand finals of WESG 2017 and defeated the Turkish team Space Soldiers with the 2-1 score, securing a lion share of a whopping $1,500,000 prize pool.
WESG 2017 CS:GO finals were held at Hainan International Convention & Exhibition Centre in Haikou, China on March 13-18. First, 27 participating teams were put into eight round-robin groups with best-of-one series, then top two teams from each group advanced to the second group stage, in whey they were divided into four single-elimination groups with best-of-two matches. Eight best teams from the group stage advanced to the single-elimination playoffs bracket with best-of-three series.
In the playoffs Fnatic outplayed MVP PK (2-0) and Team One (2-0), while Space Soldiers defeated GODSENT (2-1) and Team Russia (2-0). In the grand finals Fnatic were stronger and managed to finish the series 2-1 in their favour. Meanwhile Team Russia defeated Team One in the match for the third place.
